It has been a while!
Haha hi there ^^ so there have been changes within the past couple of weeks. I applied for a job one day at a hotel in town and then on that very day I had a call from their manager saying they want me to come for an interview. And I got the job, it’s only as a waitress at their restaurant because I have no work experience & I’m like a baby to them or something >.>
Anyway, the first day was the worst. Because I was wearing the wrong pair of heels. Seriously, I had the worst blisters of my life! The second day was slightly better but heels were still killing me. Third day felt like such a blessing because I wore my flats and fuck it felt so good. The food is good too ^^ duh, working at a restaurant; that’d be a given haha. And the people are lovely too! And so many things has happened! :D I want to tell you everything but then this would be a wordy post so I’ll make em short & arrange in them in such a way that you won’t get bored (well I’ll try~) (and gosh I hope this isn’t a bad thing to do LOL unethical issues?)
where i work.
Mishap
There was a reservation for a group of people of 15. When they came, I served one of the man some iced lemon tea in this tall glass & me being the clumsy fuck that I am, har har, spilled it on him. >.> like it was all over his pants & the floor & I apologized a million times, gave him a napkin & mopped the floor.
Second mishap, I washed my hands at the bar. And I saw this maroon napkin on the counter so I took it to wipe my hands. I didn’t know there was a fucking small glass wrapped in that stupid napkin so it fell & broke when I grabbed the napkin. I didn’t have to pay for it though I was half praying they’d fire me for it. /sigh/ I am not meant to be working with glass or breakables.
And a few more tales but I don’t wanna degrade myself any further :P
Drama
So I work with three other girls, one is an attachment student from a technical school while the other two are non-local workers. The two non-locals dislike each other for a few reasons based on past & recent occurrences between them. & I am sucked into their resentment towards each other & ...it’s like I’m Bella & there’s a pressure to be on either Team Edward or Team Jacob. Of course in this case, this Bella takes no side because this Bella is new & just here to make some dough. Both have told me their versions of their stories without me having to ask (nor am I the slightest bit interest in knowing, I could honestly care less /rolls eyes/) So yeah.
One of them though is a total bitch. I fucking hate her. /sigh/ long story short, she’s made lots of employees quit because they can’t stand being around her. I heard stories but I couldn’t be bothered but I experienced it first hand and I’ve only been there for like a week. Come on. She’s been doing this for 14 years and there is no amount of professionalism in her work in terms of quality and work ethics amongst staff members. So fuck you, you old hag. Seriously, she tells me how diligent & clever I am at handling things despite being new & that the others lack common sense. However she goes behind my back and tells everyone else that I am such a slower person to work with & that I don’t know shit. HELLO? I’m new and have no experience as a fucking waitress. Shame on you, a 14-year staff that they keep out of pity.
My supervisor said to me, “Life is about being constructive. But all she ever does is destruct everything & everyone around her. You just be careful with her, don’t get sucked into her madness, okay? I’m not bad mouthing her; she’s just a whole other species. I’ve known her for 15 years and she knows nothing about loyalty & friendship.”
Colleagues
So there’s nine people as staff including myself, 4 girls & 5 boys. 2 out of 5 of the boys are so nice to me because their shift usually coincides with mine ^^ one is rather uh... big on skinship. Haha which is alright, seeing as he just uses mild gestures. The other is a short guy and he’s nice too. The other 3; a quiet tall guy, a badass hottie, a middle-aged non-local hilarious man. So they’re all like, of different personalities so it’s all good. I was so afraid of the badass hottie because he seemed like such a jerk. He has to degrade you in some way every time he speaks (except with me maybe cos I’m new). He even talks back to our boss! Like when the boss tells him to do something, he’ll be like “No, I’m busy. Do it yourself, it’s why you have hands.” LOL boss has huge patience for this badass. But the badass is actually really nice to me, when I spilled the drink on the man, he was the one who comforted me first & was like “Just chill, Loui. They’re just a bunch of locals, don’t worry.”
Boss
He has a pretty name of which I shall not tell you because I think it’s a bad idea to even tell you all this! So I’ll disclose stories without ever mentioning names. Okay, so when he first called me, I thought his voice was amazing. I swear I thought he would be a really hot guy, fair skinned and handsome and eloquent. However, when I met him... He is cute but rather dark & he had this unique look, I can’t quite pinpoint his nationality at first. Moreover he can speak Tagalog so it just made me all the more confused.
He is a diva. Oh Lord is he a diva. He’s super nice to me and I find him very endearing; he’s got these antics that is just asdfghjkl I don’t know, he’s really fun to watch. Especially when he speaks with the other staff, he’s quite the diva. He was like “___, help me take the function room key and get the round table.”
Staff 1 : Huh?
Boss : /rolls eyes/ The key, are you deaf?
Staff 1 : What key?
Boss : Loui, what did you hear?
Me : You said to take the function room key.
Boss : See? ___ is deaf.
Staff 1 : I can’t find it.
Boss : Well search for it til you find it!
Then another staff (Staff 2) comes in, “Yes boss, how may I help you? ^^”
Boss : *British accent* I would like to get the round table from the function room & I want the key.
Staff 2 : Oh okay! *looks for key but to no avail* Oh the key is not here! Where is it?
Boss : *rolls eyes* Oh my god, my staff is useless. Nobody knows where the hell that key is.
Me : *snicker/giggle*
Staff 1 : Here it is! Got it!
Boss : Okay, take the table there please.
Staff 1 : Aw but it’s heavy~
Boss : That’s why I’m asking you to do it.
Staff 1 : Ugh good thing you’re the boss >=(
Boss : /scoff/ at least I said please!
LOL i love my boss. P.S. he leads a double life of which I will not go into detail. I think that’s his personal story & so I won’t be telling it.
The customers/guests
The foreigners are lovely, majority of them ^^Especially the European/American ones, gosh they’re so nice & when they greet me it’s like they really mean it for me to have a ‘good morning’ which makes me happy ^^ The Asians are alright too, most of them. This one particular Thai guest appealed to me because he’s so handsome! OMG he’s so handsome & so nice too, I now remember his last name (fucking hard to pronounce) & his room number (not because I’m a stalker, it’s because we have to check their breakfast attendance~) And this other Thai guy too but he’s a little tanned, still handsome & has beautiful English. He asked for a glass of iced water once, sent shivers down my spine LOL. He smokes, which looks so hot when he does it idek why D: but yeah he smells after that.
Now the local guests, however, suck. I don’t know what it is about them but they really get on my nerves. Like, their faces just... idk, they have this bitch face going on like they’re so superior just cause they’re staying at a hotel although they have a house here? IDK. And they bring their children, I cannot fucking tolerate them because they’re so loud & all over the place & making so much mess. They don’t return our greetings, they don’t say thank you after we serve them (it’s a fucking buffet, help yourself. Stop asking for so many things!) & they don’t even look at us when we bid our farewells. Not even a nod. Idk, why the bitter treatment? We’re from the same fucking society, are we not? Of course not all the locals are like that, I remember this one particular lady dropped her fork & I picked it up and she repeatedly apologized LOL cute old lady.
What sucks?
The wages. The hours. The uniform. At first it was fine~ I didn’t mind working from 8am to 5pm though it felt like FOREVER, at least my sleeping pattern wasn’t heavily affected. I sleep so well, if anything, what with being so tired & all that. But all that work for such a small pay is stupid, quite frankly. I only took on the job as something to do so I won’t be stuck at home feeling like a useless bum. But now, I wish the money felt enough for all the energy the job’s draining out of me. Not to mention the lack of social activity that I have now L I am ready to quit and so are my colleagues. They’re not happy with their pay at all but I don’t think they made plans on finding another job yet so that’s why they’re still there. /shrugs/ that’s their problem, I guess. I can only offer words of motivation; they are not doomed. Except that old hag. When she told me she plans to do something else, I’m just like “Whatever, do what you think is right. I am leaving this shithole.” (something within these lines)
More changes?
I recently went to the bank to open up a bank account & accidentally, this guy I met before was the dude who is the ...clerk-whatever guy who helped me open my account. I went with my mom & i didn’t like that guy because ...you know those first impression things & you just immediately have a feeling whether you’ll like that person or not? Well, I didn’t like him. I don’t feel like explaining. After chuckling at the mention of my wage & other annoying remarks, he was nice enough to tell me that there was an opening for job applicants at that bank & I could earn easily about 4 times more.
& that was enough to make me excited. I am so applying. Hopefully I’ll get through with this one, God knows I need to make a change. Being a waitress is no joke.
Is that all?
Oh this one Prince form the royal family dines there very often. It’s quite an honour to serve him, he’s really nice & not the slightest bit arrogant which is excellent, gives me a fresh perspective of patriotism towards Brunei haha. Can’t say the same for all the staff that dines with him though, hmm. I only like two of them. Yeah, that’s it I guess.
Just a little advice : if you’re clumsy, do not be a waitress. If you’re not a people person, don’t be a waitress. If you can’t stand nasty remarks or bitchy backstabbers, don’t be a waitress. If you’re forgetful, don’t be a waitress. Because if anything goes wrong, it is on you and it doesn’t matter how right you really are, because” the customer is always right.” & if your colleague does you wrong & she has the upper hand of being a 14 year manipulative, lying senior, then hah.
Otherwise, it’s a good way of meeting new people ^^ You get to see what it’s really like in a relatively gourmet restaurant & you may have an insight on how your staff should be treated like in case one day you’re interested in running this type of business. I learned that if you don’t pay/reward your staff with incentives & appreciation, their performance tends to deteriorate & you only have yourself to blame. Staffs deserve the incentives; they’re the ones serving the customers. You can’t expect top service from staffs if they have nothing to look forward to in their work. If this is what goes on in every other profitable business, then fuck no wonder Brunei’s rate of unemployment is the way it is.
Yeah I’m done hehe. I love you~!
